DMLT Course:

The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology is a two years diploma course.

Eligibility: The Candidate who has passed 12th (10+2) examination with Physics, Chemistry and biology with at least 40 % marks will be eligible for admission and 5 % relaxation for ST/SC/OBC candidates.

Course Objective:


The course is aimed at expertise the students to learn the techniques of collecting all biological samples and further processing for obtaining the results of the same, for all routine and specialised modern diagnostic procedure in the laboratory.

For practical training the students are posted in various internal departments of pathology associated with Choithram Hospital & Research Centre and are engaged in day to day work with senior technicians under the supervision of head of department of pathology.

Scope of the Course:

Medical Laboratory Technology is an allied health paramedical profession, which is concerned with the diagnosis of diseases through the use of various clinical laboratory investigations.

After the successful completion of the DMLT course, you will find a challenging career in a Govt. hospitals, private hospitals and laboratories, blood banks as a laboratory technician. A technician can become a technologist through further education and work experience.

About MPT

Choithram College of Paramedical Sciences offers MPT in 4 streams as per MPMSU norms. They are orthopaedics, neurology, cardio-pulmonary and sports.

MPT consists of well qualified and talented faculty-directed classes, self-directed learning with seminars, journal clubs, case presentations as output, clinical work, limited undergraduate teaching assignments and a thesis/ dissertation. Students will be expected to independently evaluate and manage patients. The first year will consist of clinical rotations through all areas and the second year will consist of specialty clinical postings.

The M.P.T program is intensive with the significant amount of self-learning including seminars, journal clubs and other academic activities.

Eligibility


Master of Physiotherapy course shall be open to those who have passed 10+2 (Physics, Chemistry, English & Biology) and full time Bachelor of Physiotherapy B.Sc. (PT) or BPT degree from institutions/ any recognized university where the mode of study is a full time regular program, with minimum 3½ years or 4 ½ years duration from this university or any other university in India or abroad as equivalent with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy

Apart from rigorous education one needs to have lots of physical stamina and interpersonal skills because of the demanding nature of the work

Admission criteria

Admission to the course will be as per the performance of the student in the entrance examination; however the student should have minimum 50% aggregate in BPT for appearing in the entrance exam. and / or the personal interview held by the management

What after MPT

After clearing MPT one can pursue Ph.D. He/ She can do doctorate research in various specialities of Physiotherapy like cardiopulmonary, orthopaedic, neurology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and geriatrics. He/ She can setup his or her own Physiotherapy clinic.

About BPT

BPT is an undergraduate academic course in the medical science field. Physiotherapy uses physical agent like exercises and other electrical modalities for providing treatment to those patients whose movement and functions are threatened by Musculo skeletal, Neurological, Cardiothoracic, Paediatric, Geriatric, Gynaecological and ageing diseases or environmental factors.

The duration of the course is four and half years including internship of 6 months (180 days). Physiotherapy program provides core skills like manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and application of electro physical modalities to the prospective students.

The work profile of Physiotherapist is prevention, restoration and rehabilitation.

Physiotherapist helps patients in recovering and rehabilitating from a state of incapacity due to any kind of genetic defects or the defects occurred as a result of an accident or any kind of illness

Eligibility

To pursue BPT one needs to be passed in 12th class or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in physics chemistry and biology. Provided the candidate has passed in each subject separately

Admission criteria

Admission to the course would be made in order of merits determined on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained by the students in the qualifying examination, PCB % and / or the personal interview held by the management

What after BPT

After clearing BPT one can pursue MPT. He/ She can pursue MPT in various specialities of Physiotherapy like cardiopulmonary, orthopaedic, neurology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and geriatrics. He/ She can setup his or her own Physiotherapy clinic

Dialysis Technician Course:

The Diploma in Dialysis Technician is a two years diploma course.

Eligibility: The Candidate who has passed 12th (10+2) examination with Physics, Chemistry and biology with at least 40 % marks will be eligible for admission and 5 % relaxation for ST/SC/OBC candidates.

Course Objective:

The aim of this course is –

To apply principle of safe practice in dialysis unit.
To demonstrate skills in maintenance of dialysis equipment.
To improve patients quality of life by delivering efficient dialysis treatment.
For practical training the students are posted in dialysis unit of associated with Choithram hospital & research centre where they assist the senior technician as well as nephrologists. During posting we familiarise them with various parts of dialysis machine and their operation and maintenance.

Scope of the Course:

In a healthy human body, the kidney purifies the blood but in modern world kidney diseases are very common that may be primary or secondary to various conditions like diabetes, hypertension, adverse effect of drugs, alcoholism etc. and the patient who are suffering undergo dialysis.

A dialysis technician’s main job profile is operate to the dialysis machine and its maintenance.

After the successful completion of the course one can work as dialysis technician at hospitals (Govt. and private) and health care centre which offers dialysis treatment .

O.T. Technician Course:

The Operation Theater Technician Course is a one year certificate course.

Eligibility: The Candidate who has passed 12th (10+2) examination with Physics, Chemistry and biology with at least 40 % marks will be eligible for admission and 5 % relaxation for ST/SC/OBC candidates.

Course Objective:


The aim of this course is to teach and train students in handling a variety of electric and electronic equipment used in modern operation theaters and to keep it in good working order.

During practical training students are posted in operation theater of Choithram Hospital to learn how to prepare operation table, dressing trolley, anesthesia equipment and surgical equipment in safe, clean and ready to use condition.

Scope of the Course:

The O.T. technicians are also known as surgical or operating room technicians. Their major role is to provide assistance in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons.

O.T. technicians act as backbone of the operation theater and in their presence surgeons feel comfortable during short or long surgical procedures. Without a good O.T. technician a surgeon is found to be helpless.

O.T. technician also helps anesthesiologists for preparation of various drugs, induction, incubation and positioning. O.T. technician has pivotal role in smooth, safe and effective functioning of the operation theater.

After the successful completion of certificate course a well trained O.T. technician is always absorbed in hospitals (Govt. and private) and nursing homes.

INTERNSHIP

Six months (180 days) of compulsory rotatory internship in various areas of specialty is part of the B.P.T curriculum. Choithram hospital has facilities for internship in all areas . Moreover, Choithram college of Paramedical Sciences has a strong community-based rehabilitation program. We accept students from other colleges including other countries for whole/part of the internship program.

Internship rules

All internees are supposed to do 180 days of compulsory rotational duties as laid down by the University. Timing of internship will be 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 6 pm
Internee will not be entitled for any leave during this period; if any leave taken should be prior informed and patients must be handed over and one day will be extended in the duration. Otherwise a compensation of 2 extra duty days would be made. Leave information may be posted in group in case of emergency
Internees are supposed to wear apron during the duty hours and should carry all necessary equipments required like Knee hammer, Goniometer, Stethoscope and inch tape for patient assessment. They should be wearing their intern badges.
Internees should maintain a daily log book and should get it verified daily (next day) by the Coordinator In-charge and weekly by the Internship in charge (Principal)
Internees should present minimum of 2 case presentations and 1 seminar on any Physiotherapy topic. The presentations would be on power point. It will be scheduled on every Friday afternoon.
Submission of project work is mandatory for successful completion of internship. Synopsis of the project should be submitted to the project in charge by the end of 2nd month and the final project must be submitted by the 5th month of internship.
Lunch hours will be allocated in batches. Strictly 1 hour of lunch is to be observed, the entry of which will be documented in the lunch register.
Daily patients’ entry should be done in log register.
Regular late coming will be calculated and extension will be imposed


General Instructions

Time of Internship – 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 6 pm
Lunch Time – 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm / 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm
Keep nails cut and hair tied. Apron clean and tidy
Follow NABH rules for department hygiene, self and patient safety.
Know the codes of emergency and use when needed
Know the code of waste disposal and follow it strictly
In department, be polite to your seniors, patients and attendant.
Attend your patient properly during treatment. Maintain one to one therapist patient ratio.
Don’t leave your patient unattended alone. Patient safety is of prime importance
Daily one hour library can be availed by the internee depending upon the patient load in department.
Use of mobile phone is not allowed in the department and if found Rs 100/- fine or 1 day extension will be imposed
Maintain clinical discipline:
Don’t sit on patients treatment couch.
Keep the machines and other articles at the proper place after use.
Do not go out of the department without informing OPD in charge.
Loitering during working hours will be treated as negligence and may be punished accordingly.
